Meet The Team

Aaron Dowds

Hi, I’m Aaron — the person behind Get On Yer Hike.  I am married to a beautiful Scottish lass Lynsey and am blessed with five wonderful children.  I work full-time as a prescribing pharmacist in Perth, Scotland.

For most of my life I’ve loved the outdoors, but like many people I drifted away from it for a while. Work, responsibilities, and everyday life slowly filled the calendar, and the hills became something I admired more than explored.

A few years ago that began to change.

I started getting back into the hills of Scotland again — first with a few small hikes, then longer adventures, and eventually some proper challenges. Somewhere along the way I rediscovered something I didn’t realise I had been missing.

The outdoors has a way of resetting you.

When you spend hours walking through mountains, forests, and glens, something shifts. Your mind slows down. Conversations deepen. The noise of everyday life fades into the background.
Some of my best thinking has happened halfway up a mountain in the wind and rain.
And some of my best friendships have grown from simply asking someone:

“Fancy a hike?”

Why Get On Yer Hike Exists

Get On Yer Hike began as a way to bring people together to explore the outdoors.
Over time it has become something slightly different — a place where I share my own hiking journey across Scotland’s hills, forests, and wild spaces.
Along the way I share:

•    Stories from the trail
•    Lessons learned (often the hard way)
•    Discoveries from the hills
•    The occasional invitation for others to join a hike

It’s not about conquering mountains or ticking off lists.
It’s about rediscovering something simple and powerful:

| Walking in wild places is good for the soul.

Not Really a Team

Although this page says Meet the Team, the truth is Get On Yer Hike is mostly just me sharing the journey.
But the story isn’t meant to be walked alone.
Friends occasionally join hikes. New people come along for adventures. Conversations happen on trails. And the community grows naturally along the way.
So maybe the real team is simply anyone who decides to get outside and walk.

The Invitation

If you enjoy the outdoors, feel curious about hiking, or just want a reason to spend more time outside, you’re always welcome here.
Some people follow the journey online.
Some explore their own local hills.
And sometimes a few of us head out together for a hike somewhere in Scotland.
However you join in…
You’re part of the journey.
